About Us

The evolution of Sargent Tools spans over 130 years. What began as the Wm. Schollhorn Co. in 1870 with the manufacture of Bernard parallel action pliers is now known as one of the largest independent hand tool manufacturers of commercial grade cable preparation and termination tools in the United States, The Rostra Tool Company. Over the years, generations of industry professionals, sportsmen, and homeowners have come to respect the quality and craftsmanship associated with a long line of specialty hand tools. Today is no different.
Although changes in demand for many products such as shoe button pliers or manual typewriter key setting tools has forced the retirement of such products to the dusty corners of our garages or handed-down ancestral tool boxes, it is with the same pride, ingenuity, and determination that we adhere to today as we continue to design and produce some of the most well recognized and respected specialized hand tools in the industry. We invite you to take a step back in History and review some of the tools of yesteryear.
Today Sargent operates out of a 25,000 square foot facility located in Branford, Connecticut. The building constructed in 1987 houses the Corporate Offices, Engineering Department, and Production facility. Rostra's ability to maintain consistency in the quality of tools produced is in part the result of our long term relationships with our employees. The productivity derived from our staff, as a result of minimal employee turnover, is a major contributing factor in maintaining production costs, competitive pricing, and the ability to respond effectively to fluctuations in product demand.
The production floor at our facility is strategically laid out to facilitate the efficient flow of components between manufacturing cells and the sequential step processes characteristic of our manufacturing technique. Rostra maintains considerable inventory levels to meet the increasing demand for our products.
